May is often whisky festival season, currently this week it is the Speyside turn for hosting festivals and kicking off the season, So here at whiskys.co.uk we saw it fitting to shine a spotlight on festivals from one of Scotland's most famous regions of whisky, The Speyside. 

Speyside is an area of Strathspey in northern eastern corner of Scotland around the River Spey in Moray, Badenoch and Straphspey. Speyside despite its small area size has the largest number of distillery's producing whiskies of any regions wwithin Scotland. 

It is the home to some of the most famous and best selling distilleries. To just name a few are Macallan, Glenfiddich, Aberlour, Benromach, Glenlivet and Glenfarclas. That is a small sample of why some consider Speyside the most prestigious of whiskies produced. 

The festival 

The Spirit Of Speyside festival is held annually often on the first weekend of May and attracts visitors from across the world with many distilleries hosting events, releasing special festival bottlings and much more, boasting over 500 events whisky inspired events during the festival. The festival started in 2000 to celebrate the regions love for Scotland premier spirit from a region synonymous with its production.
